I would like you to know that I really enjoy the "Our Local Heroes" that Channel 7 is showing. It is a great thing for the families, friends and community members to see local heroes being recognized. We do not have to know the military member shown to send out a prayer for that person and his/her family and be thankful for all that he/she is doing for our country. I hope pictures keep coming in so you can keep recognizing these amazing people. Thank you!Now second, I miss Art Show so you and Chris need to call me up soon so I can babysit my cute little cousin!Love you!J.M.Hi J.M.! We will definately keep the "Our Local Heroes" segments coming! It feels really good to recognize those who are sacrificing so much. For that reason "Our Local Heroes" has quickly become a favorite project of the news staff.

Super Afridi powers Pakistan to series win

MULTAN: Shahid Afridi equalled the record for most sixes in a one-day career to guide Pakistan to a 37-run win over Zimbabwe in the third day-night international here on Sunday, clinching the series in the process. Afridi smashed six sixes and two fours in his swashbuckling 52-ball 85 to help Pakistan post a fighting 272-9 before restricting the tourists to 235-7 in their 50 overs to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Afridi, who holds the world record for scoring the fastest one-day hundred — off 37 balls against Sri Lanka at Nairobi in 1997 — equalled Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya's 245 sixes hit in 403 matches. This was Afridi's 252nd match. Zimbabwe did put up a fight through Sean Williams (71) and Brendon Taylor (55), who shared a defiant 105-run stand for the fourth wicket, but they failed to meet the required run-rate.Pakistan paceman Sohail Tanveer had the tourists in trouble early as he dismissed Vusi Sibanda (six) and stand-in captain Hamilton Masakadza (10) before Tatenda Taibu (10) was run out.

Mayor wants to strip suburbs' say in merger

Herenton, who began an unprecedented fifth term in office Tuesday, said in his speech to the Kiwanis Club at The Peabody that he's putting consolidation back on the "front burner."

"Yes, I'm singing out of this choir book again," he said, calling the current city-county governmental structure "wasteful."

Under the traditional Tennessee approach to consolidating governments, Herenton would have to follow the legal process set out by both the Tennessee Constitution and state statute -- a countywide referendum that requires separate majority votes of residents inside the city of Memphis and those outside the city limits in Shelby County, including residents of the suburban municipalities.

If consolidation wins inside the city but is rejected among Shelby voters outside the city, or vice versa, it fails to win approval.
