Malls head to NYC for retailers

Officials with three proposed retail projects are heading to New York City this week in hopes of luring new stores to the Coastal Bend.

Trademark Property Company, the Fort Worth-based company planning to purchase, renovate and expand Padre Staples Mall; CBL & Associates Properties, one of the developers of Crosstown Commons, the outdoor mall planned for the city's Westside; and Dolphin Ventures, which is planning an outlet mall in Robstown, all will be at an International Council on Shopping Centers convention, which runs through Wednesday.

Each will be vying for the same pool of retailers, which likely includes stores not currently here.

Deal-making is a key part of the event, said council spokeswoman Erin Hershkowitz.

"This is the main way that our members get their tenants, through these deal-making programs," said Hershkowitz.

Apple takes a foothold in fledgling business of online movie rentals

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Apple Inc. has redoubled its effort to distribute movies online, gaining a foothold in a promising but unproven business that could eventually bolster its other core products.

The tech giant launched a movie rental service at its online iTunes Store Tuesday and won the alliances of all six major movie studios to supply content.

Under terms similar to those at other online movie providers, rental prices range from $2.99 for library titles, $3.99 for new releases, and $1 extra for high-definition versions. The movies are ready to watch almost instantly over a high-speed Internet connection, and users have a 24-hour period to watch each movie once they start it.

The service, which launched in the U.S. on Tuesday and will roll out internationally later this year, will work on Macs, Windows-based machines, iPhones, iPods or the Apple TV set-top box.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Janet & Mariah: The Scoop! Juelz's Cut Weeds! Eddie ...

Dunno if you've seen the reports of Bishop Lamont saying that he believes Joell Got dropped, but what I have heard is that's a misunderstanding. Sure, there are people that get dropped from Aftermath. But Joell Ortiiz isn't one of them. From what I heard, he was really a bit tired of waiting and getting acclaim, but seeing no forward movement.

Joell formally requested a release from Aftermath. I heard Dr. Dre really didn't want want to let him go, because he likes Joell. From what I hear, they both had a man-to-man conversation and they agreed to go their separate ways. I think it was a case where Interscope wants Detox and Em's next CD before anything and anybody. That means another year MINIMUM for anybody else barring a 50 Cent-type rapper.

Joell didn't want to wait, I am hearing.
